CARMAX EMPLOYEE PROVISIONING AUTOMATION PROJECT

Coursework Project for INSC 539

Year :

2024

Industry :

Academic Coursework

Client :

Penn State University

Project Duration :

15 weeks

Project Cover Image

Problem :

CarMax’s employee onboarding and account provisioning process was manual, time-consuming, and vulnerable to delays, miscommunication, missed steps, and security risks. Manual account creation also made it harder to track actions for compliance and auditing.

Solution :

Our team proposed an automated employee provisioning workflow using Workday, Microsoft Azure, Azure Entra ID, Power Automate, Intune, ServiceNow, Power BI, GitHub, and SharePoint with Copilot support. The goal was to create accounts, assign access, manage assets, track tickets, and improve security through automation and system integration.

Challenge :

The main challenge was designing a process that was realistic, secure, scalable, and aligned with CarMax’s cloud-based technology direction. We also had to consider cybersecurity, mobile device management, audit trails, approvals, and how different enterprise systems would communicate with each other.

Summary :

This project helped me apply emerging technology concepts to a real business process improvement scenario. It reflects my experience with enterprise systems, workflow automation, cloud computing, cybersecurity, process documentation, and creating user-friendly solutions that reduce manual work.
